January 23 is “National Pie Day” in America. Started by a man named, Charlie Papazian, from Boulder, CO. 186 million pies are sold annually in grocery stores across the US. Pie can trace its roots all the way back to the Greeks. They created what is believed to the first pastry shell by mixing water and flour together and filling it with everything from honey, nuts, fruits, and meats. Today in the US, the top 10 pies are: Apple, Pumpkin, Chocolate Cream, Cherry, Pecan, Lemon Meringue, Blueberry, Key Lime Pie, Peach, and Mixed Berry. Sherry will be serving only “PIE” on January 23 at the tea room. Cost will be $5/slice, including a scoop of home made ice-cream and coffee or tea. RSVP appreciated!
